Welcome to Tay Rowing Club (TRC), a club that plans to bring rowing to as many people as possible in Tayside. The Tay is a fantastic resource that has huge potential for the sport. By rowing with us you will not only learn how to participate in a fun water- based sport but you will be helping to build the sport on the Tay for others.
We are working alongside Scottish Rowing’s Project Rio and National Lottery’s Awards for All who funded us a brand new boat designed for learn to row. We will keep this page up to date with Learn to Row opportunities.
Learn to Row Adult Courses (LTR) – 2024
What is Learn to Row and why should you join?
Learn to Row is a 10-week course, 2 hours each week, that will teach you the basics of rowing in a fun and supportive environment. You will learn how to row as part of a crew, improve your fitness, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the river Tay. No previous experience is required, just a willingness to try something new and challenging.
By the end of the course you should be able to row competently as part of a crew.
When and where are the courses?
We have two courses available this year, each with two boats of four people, starting on Wednesday, 3rd April 2024 and Saturday, 6th April 2024.
Each course has ten sessions lasting two hours per week. The Wednesday evening session will run from 6pm – 8pm and the Saturday morning session will run from 9.30 am to 11.30 am.
The courses will take place at our base, located at Sleepless Inch, Perth (just off the Rhynd Road on the opposite bank to Willowgate).
Sessions may be subject to change due to weather conditions.
Spaces are limited!
As mentioned above, the course is open to 4 people per boat and there will be 2 boats per session, 16 novices in total; 1 session running on Wednesday evenings from 6pm – 8pm, and the other running on Saturday mornings from 9.30am – 11.30am. You will attend the same session each week.
To be able to join the Learn to Row course, participants are not expected to have any previous rowing experience, but should come prepared to take on moderate exercise, which will include some lifting (of boats). It will also require wading into the river.
During the Learn to Row course participants will be training on the rowing machines to improve their technique as well as being on the water. Participants should wear appropriate sportswear, trainers, leggings, shorts, etc. (gym clothing usually is appropriate). Old trainers, wellingtons or water shoes will be required for boat sessions. For safety reasons no loose clothing both on and off the water.
