FAQs

At Tay Rowing Club, you can participate in two main styles of rowing:

- Sculling: Each rower uses two oars (one in each hand). This style can be done in single, double, or quad boats and focuses on balance and technique.

- Sweep Rowing: Each rower uses one oar. It requires teamwork and synchronisation and can be done in pairs, fours, or eights.

Both styles are available for recreational and competitive rowers.

Yes, if you are an experienced rower and a member of another rowing club, you are welcome to join us for an ad hoc session as a visitor. Your first visit is free of charge, and subsequent visits are £5. Please note, this option is for occasional visits and cannot be used as a substitute for membership.

We run learn to row courses each year, typically starting in April and running for 10 weeks.  Participants attend 1 x 2 hr session per week for the 10 weeks which encompasses erg (rowing machine) sessions plus on the water sessions, taking you through the basics and building your confidence in the sport.  On successful completion of the course, it is then possible to join the club as a full member.

We currently have a waiting list.  Anyone on the waiting list will be among the first to hear about upcoming dates and details for booking.  To go on the waiting list contact comms@tayrowingclub.com
